Helping Babies Breathe
Helping Babies Take Their First Breath
Helping Babies Breathe was launched to reduce neonatal mortality in Kenya caused by a lack of resources and training. This life-saving program trains healthcare workers in essential neonatal resuscitation techniques, equipping them with the skills and technology to save the lives of vulnerable infants.
Neonatal teams from The University of Nebraska Medical Center and other Nebraska Hospitals traveled to Naivasha to certify nurse educators to continue teaching these techniques. Helping Babies Breathe has directly contributed to a significant reduction in infant mortality and morbidity.

More Program Details
Instructors came from University of Nebraska Medical Center who taught and certified 30 doctors and nurses at Nakuru Hospital. This large county hospital delivers 1,500 babies a month. We donated CPAP machines and taught the NICU staff how to use them. These efforts reduced infant mortality by 50%. There continues to be a need for additional CPAPs.
